Cosmic, twangy, rock-n-roll with everything in service to the song.
Rooted in American music history but reaching forward, Lewis’ methodology is grounded in a lifetime of deep-dives into the history of American rock-n-roll. A thumb-picking player inspired by Merle Travis and Bruce Coburn, his affection for simple arrangements lends itself to the magic of improvisation when the moment’s right.
A passionate troubadour and guitarist who plays with skill and abandon, Lewis Stubbs Junior writes to perform and performs to join the audience in the magic communion only live music can create. Stories resonate, and solos sing.
Get in the room with it - come to a show!
Decades in on the practice of getting the listener lost in a song, his compositions reach through the stimulation of a chaotic world and invite the listener to connect in that primal place that has drawn people together around solid songs forever.
A Nashville native with decades of experience performing in bands: Highwater, Reliables, and Natchez Tracers, Lewis struck out on his own for the first time in 2024. Playing solo acoustic and as a tight rock-n-roll trio with long-time friends and collaborators Brad Clark (bass) and Chris Long (drums) as well as vocal accompaniment from his songbird daughter Lucy Stubbs and local pedal-steel player CJ Colandrea.

“Lewis Stubbs Junior has come a long way - from a curious kid strumming his first chords to a commanding frontman and master of thumbtack and slide guitar. Now a sonic alchemist, he creates raw, authentic, and electrifying sounds that captivate everyone who hears them.”
